Encinitas Movers
The first inhabitants of Encinitas were the San Dieguitos, the La Jollans, and Dieguenos Indians. The Dieguenos helped to build many Spanish missions. A man by the name of Jabez Pitcher, is considered to be the “father” of Encinitas. He settled there in 1881, filing a land claim near the current location of the Encinitas Civic Center. English spiritualists named their settlement Leucadia after one of the Greek Isles, and all of the communities ended up being named after Greek gods and mythical figures.
Modern day Encinitas consists of five distinct communities. “Historic Encinitas”, “New Encinitas”, “Leucadia” and “Olivenhain”. Today Encinitas, which is located in San Diego County, is a coastal beach city.
Encinitas is less than one hundred miles south of Los Angeles and is a popular surfing community. It is well known for both it’s mild climate and the growing of ornamental flowers, particularly poinsettias. Though incorporated, the different communities all retain their unique flavors and identities.
