North Park Movers
North Park has the dubious distinction of being the site of California’s worst air disaster, when a Boeing 727 collided with a Cessna. The collision killed 135 people on board the 727, two on the Cessna and seven people on the ground as well as destroying 22 homes.
First settled around 1893 when a man named James Hartley purchased 40 acres of land to plant a lemon grove. The Hartley family worked hard to clear land and plant the young lemon trees, but discovered that watering them would be an arduous task. Water had to be toted from San Diego in buckets up a hilly wagon trail.
It wasn’t long before the population of North Park began to grow and the first high-rise commercial building was constructed in 1905 by North Park’s first real estate firm of “Stevens & Hartley”.
