Poway Movers
Poway didn’t become a neighborhood in California until December of 1980. It sits in the center of the county of San Diego and is often referred to “The City in the Country” because of it’s past rural roots. The history of Poway began in the late 18th century when padres from a Franciscan mission began keeping cows. The name of the community was “Paguay”, which, loosely translated means “end of the valley.” Native American artifacts such as arrowheads, metates (grinding stones) and pottery still remain in the area.
Only about 800 people resided in Poway in the late 1800′s, farming and selling grain, dairy products and fruit.
Further development was hampered by lack of an available water supply and it wasn’t until 1954 that a Municipal Water district was formed by using water from the Colorado River Aqueduct. Sometimes mistaken for an old cowboy town, farming was at Poway’s roots.
Brandon Call, an actor on the popular show “Baywatch” and three members of the band Blink-182′s have lived in Poway.
