San Marcos Movers
Historically, the San Luis Rey mission flocks were robbed by Indians late in the eighteenth century and it is said that while they were searching for the Indians who robbed them, they discovered a fertile valley. The valley was named Little Valley of Saint Mark, or Los Vallecitos de San Marcos. The name was later shortened to San Marcos. Dutch and German immigrants began to settle the area, which was predominantly a farming community where livestock was raised.
The Santa Fe Railroad laid tracks through the valley in 1887, although they were a mile from the center of the village, which dismayed the residents. However, San Marcos has its own post office, grain depot, general stores and a blacksmith and by 1905 even had telephone service. San Marcos continued to grow rapidly in the mid 1950′s after water arrived from the Colorado River.
Today San Marcos, with its award-winning school district, is commonly called the education hub of San Diego. It has even been suggested that the San Marcos school district may the the best in the entire state of California, with students from the district scoring higher on their state tests than their peers. The San Diego campus of California State University was opened in 1989 in Northern San Marcos. It has a nursing school and also offers 10 graduate programs and 1 Doctorate in Education program.
